How it all began and now…
A picky occasional jewellery wearer who discovered the magic of silver clay and was hooked. At first I made a few pieces for myself and then for friends and family as gifts. In the midst of the pandemic, I decided to take the plunge and do something I’d always wanted to do; run my own business. I set up my first online shop with Etsy and Pinch of Silver Design was born. Selling online, and in person when the restrictions lifted, I had a very successful but mad first Christmas. Making lots of mistakes and learning all the time; both business wise and creatively.
I then embarked on the PMC certificate courses with Helen Drye and Julie Holt and spent a year improving my skills with silver clay and challenging my creativity. A move to the UK was afoot and with it a name change in honour of my grandmothers with a nod to my increasing obsession with reproducing nature in silver. Lily Mae Studios was born.
Working out of a small studio in Oxfordshire I have started to use some traditional silversmithing methods in addition to my silver clay work. It’s not hard to get inspiration for new pieces when I’m out walking.
Recently I attended a workshop on enamelling on copper and once again caught the bug. You will see more of these pieces on my website and in my exhibitions in 2026. Some of the colour will no doubt show up in my new silver work too.
I hope you find something that inspires you. Lynne x
